We conclude the India Program 2009 with a Symposium on the state and direction of Chandigarh and India. We have succeeded in initiating a discourse towards these concerns and bringing together the rare amalgamation of Academics, the Public, and certain Architectural visionaries towards these issues.

A first in the history of India, IP2009 brings ARCAM's INDIA Builds exhibition of masterplan proposals, readings, and the work of five contemporary Indian architects in five major Indian cities: Mumbai, New Delhi, Calcutta, Bangalore, and Ahmedabad.

IP2009: FRAMECONTROL concludes. The studio's projects have brought to light many issues that are forefront to the continued success of an expanding Chandigarh. Our guest critics were Manit Rostogi, Franz Ziegler, Riyaz Tayyibji, Neeraj Manchanda, Pankaj Gupta, Nandan Balfavar, Sangeeta Bagga Mehta, and JP Tarachand.

The object of this workshop/seminar was to develop our capacity to communicate with marks. In doing so questioning what is Art, what is Modern, and how relevant was Le Corbusier's nonArchitectural works towards his Arhchitecture. The synthesis of our work consisted of drawings from our environments: abstracting qualities/compositions, sketchbook studies, an investigation into a LeCorbusier painting. We concluded this series of exercises with each producing a grand final work.

Our week of travel took us the see many great historic sites around and in Ahmedabad. The students spent a day measuring the Gandi Ashram Complex and plan to produce apparently the first analysis of this site. Le Corbusier seems not to be very far from any place we find ourselves as evidenced in his Millowners building along the river's edge of Ahmedabad.

Ahmedabad hosts Early Modern: Louis Kahn, Charles Eames, and Le Corbusier.

The students visited the office of the engineering firm that is engaged in an epic civic project. Both banks of the Ahmedabad River are being fortified with 10 meter high buttresses.

Having had midterm reviews the day before we began, the students worked dilgently three days through great odds to achieve this poetic expression and have succeeded in making a mark on Chandigarh in the Context of LeCorbusier's modern manner and towards an architecture of the future for this site.

...contained beautifully within the vast scale of the great plaza of Sector 17. Although our objective was to open a discourse towards the rigid framing and austerity of this space, what emerged was a strange harmony. Modern Architecture accommodates Modern Architecture.

Today we tested some of the limits and mechanics of making the primary structure working with two bamboo craftsmen to aid our imaginative aspirations. We have completed the fabrication of the pier forms and expect to pour the concrete on Monday.
